Microsoft have just released a video which shows a demo of the new interface for the next version of their operating system (codenamed Windows 8). Essentially, the new interface looks like the interface that you find on the Windows Phone 7 operating system. Instead of me telling you how it works, it’s just best if I let you watch it for yourself by viewing the video.
As you can see, it is a HTML5-based experience with an option to go back to the Windows 7 desktop if you are a person who likes the Windows 7 interface. This is why I think that Windows 8 is simply Windows 7 with a new interface that runs alongside the Windows 7 desktop.
However, I have to give credit to Microsoft for the “thumbs layout” of the keyboard in Windows 8. I would imagine that this will make it easier for people to type out web addresses. I also give credit for making Windows more touch friendly from what we have seen in the above video.
The Microsoft Store already exists where you can buy and download Microsoft Office 2010 at the time of posting this article. However, it turns out that there may also be an app store where you can buy and download all kinds of Windows 8 apps using your hotmail account. It also looks like Windows 8 will also have twitter integration. However, I hope it supports Facebook and my favourite mobile game (angry birds). Finally, I will also give them credit for giving the ability to use a physical keyboard and mouse if you are old fashioned like me.
So now you have seen it, what do you think of the new Windows interface?
I look forward to hearing your take on this.
