Freebie Alert: Portal is free until 20th September 2011

Valve have decided to let gamers get Portal(one its most popular titles) for free. I should warn you, that this offer is only valid until 20th September, so I suggest you jump on this one right now. It’s available through steam on PCs and Macs, as well as on Xbox360 and PlayStation 3.

To get your hands on this freebie, you have to have a Steam Account. If you don’t have a Steam account, then you can create your Steam account by clicking here . By the way, I should mention that it is completely free to create a Steam account. There are no monthly subscription fees, no signup fees or any other fees.  In addition to that, you can also use PayPal as your method of payment.

Freebie Alert: iOS games Trucks and Skulls Nitro, Rage and Rage HD

As if this weekend could not get any better, There are two great games out there for Apple’s iOS platform being given away for free.  Because it’s facebook page managed to get to 100,000 likes, ID software(the company behind the FPS known as DOOM) will be giving away Rage and Rage HD for free until August 24th. I suggest that you download it for your iPhone 4, iPad or iPad 2 whilst you can.  

The other game is called Trucks and Skulls Nitro which is also going to be available for free for this weekend only. So I suggest that you grab it quickly.  

Valve Makes Team Fortress 2 free-to-play

I love freebies, and if you like your freebies, then you will like this story.  Steam is Valve’s game distribution platform for the PC.  Some people actually consider it the iTunes Store of gaming on the PC.  Of course, the good people at Valve have created a Mac OSX version of Steam which is available for the Mac.  When Steam came to the Mac, Team Fortress 2 was one of the major titles that were made available for the Mac when at the launch of Steam for Mac.  

Valve have made Team Fortress 2 available as a Free-to-Play game. That means that there is no charge to download the game and play it for free. However, I suspect that there will be upgrades which you can buy whilst you are in the game. This means that the game is free-to-play, but pay to get the upgrades. Of course, this game will be free-to-play on both Windows and OSX PCs, so I suggest you download Steam, create a Steam account and download Team Fortress 2 right now.

 If you are on a Windows PC, you need to be running Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7. If you are on a Mac, you will need to be running Mac OSX Leopard (Version 10.5.8), or Mac OSX Snow Leopard (version 10.6.3 or later). 

Support for free to play games now available Steam

For those of you who don’t know it, Steam is a PC game store that is considered to be the “iTunes store” of gaming for the PC and the Mac.  As of today, Valve(the company behind steam) allows companies to publish their games using the free to play model.  Essentially, some games will be free to download and play. However, there will be some games of which will have some add-ons in the game which you can get if you are willing to spend some money. 

Farmville on Facebook(a social network) is an example of this. The game itself is free to play, but there is an in-game currency called Farm Cash. You can get more of this currency if you are willing to spend money. However, you cannot change farm cash back into real money.

Sony’s Welcome Back Package is Now Live

Now that Sony’s Playstation Network(PSN) store is back online in most places, Sony’s welcome back package is now live as well. If you have a PSN account that was registered before or on 20th April 2011, then I suggest you sign into your PSN account on your Playstation 3 and get your welcome back package.  

In short, you get 2 free playstation 3 game from a choice of five. The games vary depending on the country you are in.  You will also get 30 days free access to Playstation plus, this means that you will be able to play some PS3 games for free for 30 days.  If you have a playstation plus subscription, then you will get your subscription extended by 60 for free.  If you have a PSP, then you will also get 2 free games from a choice of four. The choice you have will depend on the country you are in.  

You have just over 24 days left to claim your welcome back package. I suggest that you get yourself onto your PS3 or PSP and get your welcome back package right now.
