Apple announces a media event: I will cover it live!
Well, it seems that the predictions were right. On October 4th Apple will be holding a special media event. Apple have sent invites for this event. The tagline at the bottom of the invite says “Let’s talk iPhone”. It also indicates that the event will start at 10AM Pacific time in the USA(6PM UK time). From this invite, we can see that Apple are clearly going to announce a new iPhone.
I am glad to announce that I will be doing live video coverage of the event. Alongside the live video feed, there will be a live chatroom, so that you can interact with me. As with the amazon press conference, I will put out a tweet with a link to my live video feed at least 15 minutes ahead of time. This tweet will tell you that I am about to go live. As I specified, I have a podcast network. Now here is the problem. at the moment, we have run out of storage space at our current podcast host, podbean. As a result of this, we are currently on the search for a new podcast host.
Our shows are uploaded to the internet in the form of an audio file which you can listen to. But to store them online, you need to use a storage service known as a web host or a podcast host. Now, hosting can be a costly thing,

Amazon’s Press Conference:I might cover it live
For those of you who don’t know, I have a podcast network called “The MHF Tech Network”. This is a podcast network where I produce shows about technology. At the moment, we have two shows: MHF How-Tos and The MHF Tech Show.
So, on Wednesday 28th September 2011 Amazon are going to be holding a press conference, where they will be announcing something. There has been a lot of speculation that they will be launching a tablet running google’s Android operating system.
Now, I have never done this before, but if I feel up to it, then I will be doing live video coverage of the event. However, you have to go to twitter.com/Adiman423 and follow me. That way, if I do go live, then I will tweet to let you all know.

Adi’s Week in Tech News(19th September 2011 – 25th September 2011)
Hi everyone, and welcome to a new feature which I am trying out called “Adi’s Week in Tech News”. This is where I tell you about the technology news stories that have happened this week.
It’s been quite an interesting week in technology news this week.
Facebook had announced that it would be releasing a new type of profile page to replace your old one, called “Timeline”. Essentially, you will be able to see all the things you have posted on Facebook in the time you have been on Facebook. This is not just photos text or videos, it will also be things you have done within the applications on facebook. They also announced that the like button is going to be changed with verbs, so you can say that you read a book instead of “liking” a book or liking a movie.
Microsoft announced new requirements for PC manufacturers, if they want a sticker that says that their PC was designed for Windows 8. Essentially, manufacturers like Sony, Acer, HP, Dell, Lenovo and others will have to use the new UEFI software that will eventually kill off the old BIOS software. The new UEFI has a feature called secure boot. Essentially, it will only allow operating systems with verified code to load. If you try and put Linux on one of these systems, then it will not run. If you want Linux, then you will have to use VirtualBox or VMWare Player.
For those of you who don’t know it, google has their own social network called Google+. Before, the only way to sign up for it, is if someone had sent you an invite to sign up. However, Google+ is now available to everyone. You can now go to plus.google.com and sign up for your free Google+ account.
In the USA, New York City’s subway train platforms will be equipped with some hardware which will allow the people of New York to use their mobile phones whilst waiting for a train(I am so jealous!).
Finally(and whilst we are on the topic of tech in the USA), users of the Eau Claire Wisconsin Public Library will be able to borrow one of 44 iPads available. These iPads will come loaded with 1000 eBooks, 10 audio books and some applications. If you are a user of this library who has a library card with less than $10US of fines to be owed, then you may want to consider taking this offer.
However, there is one more thing! I have received word from a source that reports that Apple may be hosting a media event on October 4th 2011. This is where we could see Apple announcing the much anticipated iPhone 5.

Linux on Windows 8 could be a problem
For many years, PCs have been running on something called BIOS. Essentially, this was the chip in your computer that allowed your keyboard, mouse, monitor and other components to work when turning on. However, there is something similar and newer that does the same job called UEFI(Unified Extensible Firmware Interface). It will allow your computer to boot up faster amongst other things.
Of course, Windows 8 will be taking advantage of UEFI, meaning you could have a Windows 8 PC with a decent boot time. However, there is a sting in the tale. When windows 8 is released, manufacturers will be putting Windows 8 on the PCs that they sell. However, the PCs must have UEFI, which also has a secure boot feature(which must be enabled). If the manufacturers follow this rule, then they can put a sticker on their PCs saying that their PC was designed for Windows 8. Essentially, this means that you cannot install Linux on a Windows 8 PC.
With that being said, you can install VIrtualBox(or VMWare Player) on Windows 8. From there, you can create a virtual PC and install Unbuntu Linux on it. I know that Microsoft wants to make an effort to secure their operating system, but they have to consider people who want to run Linux alongside Windows.
Google plus goes public
It has been a long time coming, but Google has finally made Google Plus(their social network) open to the public. As of yesterday, you no longer need to wait on someone to invite you into the social network. You can sign up now by going to plus.google.com. I should also use this opportunity to tell you that even I am also on google plus. When you have signed up, search for Adi Khajuria and you will find me.

Adiman423 goes back in time: The Sega Dreamcast
Welcome to Adiman423 goes back in time. This is where I take a look at various technologies from the past. In this article, we will be taking a trip back in time to the late 1990s. In particular, I will be looking at Sega’s Dreamcast games console. A short-lived games console. The Dreamcast was released in Japan in the fourth quarter of 1998, then in the fourth quarter of 1999, it released in the USA and Europe.
Just before launching, Sega’s then previous console was considered a miserable failure by the media. Sega really needed to come up with a console that would regain the trust of the public. When the dreamcast launched, it was dogged with a big problem. At the time, NEC was the manufacturer of the graphics chip. NEC could not make enough of the graphics chips to meet the demand for the dreamcast at the time. But what was this graphics chip? This is where I think it’s time for me to move onto the graphics of the Dreamcast.
At the time, Sega’s Dreamcast had some amazing graphics on it’s games. Games like Crazy Taxi, Sonic Adventure, Soul Calibur took advantage of the power of the dreamcast. At the time, Sony’s Playstation and the Nintendo 64 were competing with the Dreamcast. When I played on a Dreamcast for the first time, I was absolutely amazed by the graphical power that it showed me. In terms of the graphics Dreamcast had the competitors beat. The dreamcast graphics were well ahead of the Nintendo 64 and Sony’s Playstation.
The other thing that made the Dreamcast special, was online play. It was the first games console that allowed people to play games over the internet. The console, had a modem that allowed gamers to connect to the internet. Phantasy star online was a game that took advantage of this and Sega showed the world that online play could be fun.
There was another problem, it came in the form of Sony’s Playstation 2. It came into competition with the dreamcast. Not only did the playstation 2 have a DVD player, it also had the advantage of being a more powerful console. On the other hand, the Dreamcast did not have a DVD player. If it did have a DVD player, then it would have stood up against the competition.
In March of 2001, sega finally announced that they would stop production of the Dreamcast. Though, this was the case, companies still continued to make games for the platform, at least until 2007 when Sega produced the last few games for Dreamcast. When the dreamcast eventually died, Sega then decided to move on and decided to make games for the Microsoft’s XBox, Sony’s PlayStation 2 and Nintendo’s GameCube console.
If anything, some my favourite games from the dreamcast were Virtua Tennis, Crazy Taxi, Sports Jam and The House Of The Dead 2.
So there you have it, Sega’s Dreamcast console. It was shortlived, great graphics that were beyond what consoles could do at the time. It was the first console with online play and was Sega’s last ever console. Of course, I have to say that out of those, Crazy taxi was my favourite.
On a side note, Sega have basically re-released Crazy taxi amongst other great Dreamcast games for the PS3 and the XBox 360.
