Hopes of 4-inch screen on iPhone 5 could be dashed

Apple recently released iOS 5 beta 7 to developers. Those with access to the beta releases have been delving deep and have found an interesting tidbit. This latest beta release has revealed what looks like an iphone 5 with a 3.7 inch screen based on a Photo stream icon. This could prove to be the most reliable information we have seen about the iPhone 5 to date.

As we can see, this picture also reveals a square-shaped home button. This is different to the circular home button we have seen in the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 3GS. We will see if this turns out to be the real iPhone 5 when apple does their usual late September/early October announcement. 

Clue found about the next iPhone

As we know, an employee went to the Cava 22 bar in San Francisco, California, USA. In a recent development, police officers did not want to comment on what it was that Apple had lost. However, there was a document in a press release from San Francisco’s police department.  The document called “iPhone5.doc”, seems to be a clue about Apple’s next iPhone.  

Verizon may offer an early upgrade

You may know of Verizon, one of the four big mobile phone networks in the USA. The other three are Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile.  

An anonymous tipster has told me that Verizon may be giving out an early upgrade to some of its customers. They are allowing their customers to upgrade to the Motorola Droid or the iPhone 5. Normally, when you go for a mobile phone contract, you are normally tied into it for 12 months(1 year), 18 months(1.5 years) or even 24 months(2 years). In the USA, you can only upgrade 20 months through your 24 month contract. 

However, it seems that Verizon is showing that they like to be good to the most loyal of their customers. The way to find out if you are eligible, is to check your emails or phone up Verizon and ask them.  Remember, nothing ventured, nothing gained.  

On a side-note, we don’t know the release date of the iPhone 5. The important thing we know is that iOS 5(The next major release of Apple’s mobile operating system), will be available for download in the Autumn, which is quite soon. This means that the iPhone 5 should be available soon. Normally, Apple makes a major release of iOS at the same time as an iPhone release.  

Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac is out now

For those of you who don’t know it, I am a huge advocate of desktop virtualisation. If you read a previous article, then you may know of Parallels Desktop. Parallels Desktop is a tool that is considered to be one of the best solutions for you to create and run Windows installations on the mac in a virtual machine.

Earlier on today, Parallels released Parallels Desktop 7 for the mac. It is faster and better than its predecessor(Parallels Desktop 6). On top of that you can buy, download and install Windows 7 into a virtual machine right from within parallels.  In addition to this, the new version of this application supports Mac OSX Lion. Not only that but it also allows you to run OSX Lion inside a Virtual Machine. As before, you can download, install and run Google’s Chrome OS inside a virtual machine. However, you can download, install and run Fedora Linux and Ubuntu Linux inside Parallels Desktop 7. On a side-note I personally prefer to install Fedora and Ubuntu myself and customise the installations to my needs. 

If you have Parallels Desktop 6 or 5, then you can upgrade to version 7 for $50 in the USA(£35 in the UK). The standalone copy will cost you $80 in the USA(£64).

Apple press release about WWDC2011 Keynote

Next week is when Apple will be holding it’s annual developers conference known as WWDC(World Wide Developers Conference).  This is a time when developers of Apple software gather to get help with their development skills.  This is also the place where apple normally announces a product.  In this case Apple has released the details of the content of the keynote speech.  Apple has said that it’s CEO Steve Jobs (along with his team of executives will be unveiling iOS 5 for your iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad and Apple TV. They will also be giving more information about OSX Lion (AKA OSX version 10.7), which is the eighth major release of OSX.  

For me, the main question, is will Apple be willing to stream this keynote? They have done it before in September of 2010 when they talked all about their music products, which are the Apple TV and their iPods.  I think that they should stream the keynote so that people can watch it live without having to rely on the liveblogs so heavily.
