On Wednesday 18th January 2012, many sites(including reddit, wikipedia and boingboing) went dark as part of a massive protest against the SOPA and PIPA legislation. This caused some of the members of congress to withdraw their support for SOPA and PIPA.
However, it seems that the FBI has had something to say about that. The FBI has found a few of the executives of megaupload in New Zealand and arrested them.
In addition to that, MegaUpload and Megavideo have been shut down by the US government.
MegaUpload was a site that allowed people to freely share files with other people. In a similar fashion, MegaVideo allowed you to upload videos for others to watch. That being said, MegaUpload and MegaVideo have been used to illegally redistribute games, software, music, TV shows and more.
