Picks of the show
Adi’s pick of the show went to the smart interactive whiteboard. Let’s say you’re in a meeting and you have have something that you need to convey in pictures instead of words.
Instead of telling people about it, hook your computer up to a projector and a smart interactive whiteboard and you will be able to do just that. You would be able to use a special pen to draw on the screen to convey those thoughts in pictures. Adi had a chance to play with one of these on the show floor and it was awesome.
Chris’ pick of the show was ShoreTel’s BYOD solution. With this solution, the devices that people can use increases to smartphones, tablets, and laptops. Shoretel provide the software and hardware to allow employees to access network services on their own devices. An amazing solution and one your company should be looking to incorporate into there business model as more productive working solution. In the words of Pejman Roshan, work is not a place you go, it’s a thing that you do.

MHF Specials Episode 8 Preview
Hi everyone. I want to apologise for not posting any articles over the last couple of days. However, this has been for a good reason. I have been preparing some awesome content for you. During this week, the MHF Tech network went down to the Unified Communications Expo 2012. Taking place in London’s Olympia, this is the trade show where the vendors in the unified communications space show off their wares for 2012 and beyond.
I am pleased to announce that I am going to be recording episode 8 of MHF Specials this weekend. In this upcoming episode we are going to be bringing you our coverage of Unified Communications Expo 2012. We hope that you will be able to join us for what will be a great show.
The MHF Tech Show Episode 13 Show Notes
The MHF Tech Network is going to be launching our new site very soon. Hopefully, it should be available as an open beta next week so stay tuned for more updates on that one. Big shout-outs going to Nilima Patwardhan, Sharon, Ellie Bunce, Laura Ray, Becky Mario, Rose Ross, Francesco Aresta and Louis Slabbert.
The News
Our sources indicate that Microsoft might be limiting the number of Windows 8 editions to just six. The six editions are reported to be the 32 bit and 64 bit editions of Windows 8, Windows 8 Professional edition and Windows 8 Enterprise Edition.
Nokia has pushed out version 1.2 of their Meego operating system for the Nokia N9. The update is now available for download right from your device.
As part of their announcement, Nokia has put up some photos that have been taken directly from their announced 808 Pure view camera phone.
Feature
Mobile computing has come a long way since the early 1990s. Back then, I remember having a laptop running Windows 95. At the best, I could take on some of the best golf courses in Microsoft Golf 3.0 or despatch some alien denizens in Doom I was not really all that great, but boy were those games fun.
Now let’s fast forward the clock to today. Increasingly, more and more of us are using our phones, tablets and laptops as our main computers. These mobile computers allow us to do a lot of the things that a traditional desktop computer can do. Check emails, go shopping online, play games, write documents of many kinds, listen to music and so much more.
During this week, we will see the start of a trade show known as Mobile World Congress. A place where we can find out more about some of the Tablet computers, phones, and other mobile computers and technology which will be available to us in the near future. This years conference is taking place in the city of Barcelona between the 27th February and 1st March 2012. At the show, there will be approximately 1400 exhibitors. Amongst them will be some of the big names such as Huawei, Nokia, Samsung, Motorola, HTC, AT&T and Vodafone.
Alongside that, there will be some keynote speeches. Some of the confirmed speakers include John Donahoe(CEO of eBay), Eric Schmidt(Executive Chairman of Google), Dennis Crowley(CEO of FourSquare), René Obermann(chairman and CEO of Deutsche Telekom) and John Chambers(chairman and CEO of Cisco Systems).
So here are some of the things that have already been announced. To start off with, Nokia has announced its 808 Pureview phone which is said to be sporting a 41 megapixel camera phone for some super high-res photos of squirrels. Samsung has also unveiled their Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet which will run Google Android Ice Cream Sandwich and sport a dual-core 1.4GHz CPU. HTC have also unveiled their HTC One S and One X phones all of which will also run Ice Cream Sandwich(AKA Android 4.0).
Odd Box
A clever guy has been able to find a way to play your old floppy disk DOS games on your Android Tablet. All you need is a USB floppy disk drive which connects straight to your Android Tablet and A copy of DOSBox for Android and you are good to go.
Technology firms featured heavily in this year’s list of the 25 most oddball questions compiled by the US employment website Glassdoor. Careers experts said the questions were intended to make a candidate display a thoughtful approach to problem-solving.
As well as HP’s brain-acher, interviewees at other companies were asked:
- “How many people are using Facebook in San Francisco at 2.30pm on a Friday?” (Google)
- “How do you feel about those jokers at Congress?” (Consolidated Electrical)
- “If you were a Microsoft Office program, which one would you be?” (Summit Racing Equipment)
- “You’re in a row boat, which is in a large tank filled with water. You have an anchor on board, which you throw overboard (the chain is long enough so the anchor rests completely on the bottom of the tank). Does the water level in the tank rise or fall?” (Tesla Motors)
Glassdoor said that while technology companies included questions designed to catch candidates off guard, they also posed tried and tested queries such as “Why did you apply for this job?” and “What are your strengths and weaknesses?”.
You can now build your own TV antenna using a can of your favourite. First, cut a fizzy drink can in half, then staple the two halves to a piece of wood, hot glue a wire to run from the cans to the transformer, and you’re done. It’s a crude solution, but at least it works.
Picks of the Week
Chris’ Pick of the Week was a set of Wi-Fi bathroom scales available from FireBox. They are a little on the expensive side at £119 but this gizmo automatically records your weight, fat mass and BMI(body mass index) every time you step on it. It beams the information to your computer or iPhone over your WiFi connection, so you can track your results wherever you may roam via a password protected website or free iPhone app.
it is also compatible with online coaching programs such as Daily Burn and iPhone apps like RunKeeper and WeightBot. You can even sync with Google Health and share your progress via email, Twitter or Facebook.
Adi’s pick of the week was a category of tech known as Robotic vacuum cleaners. It can be an absolute chore trying to keep your house really clean. So what if you could have something else to do that for you? This is where a robotic hoover would come in. Just simply press the power on button, and let it do all the hard work, whilst you have a cup of coffee or play a quick round of Wipeout HD. Most of these hoovers will also know exactly where not to go and would return back to their charging dock whenever it needs a recharge. These are available on eBuyer, Amazon, Firebox and many other sites.

This is our newest show on the MHF Tech Network which is all about gaming. If it’s PC, PS3, XBox 360, Nintendo Wii retro or anything else in the world of gaming, we cover it here.
The news
Codemasters have announced that they will release a Complete Edition of DIRT 3. This edition will include twelve new tracks, and many new cars and liveries for you to play with. This complete edition should be available sometime in March 2012
For gamers who can’t wait until february 14th, a youTube user has posted extensive footage of the Demo for Mass effect 3. You can view the video below.
The folks at sony have posted up a video which gives a sneak peek of the Upcoming Playstation Vita. You can watch the video in its full glory below.
In today’s feature, we talked about DOSBox, a great way to play some classic PC games from the days of the MS-DOS era of PC gaming. This application only gives you enough to run games in an emulated DOS environment. You can run FreeDOS on DOSBox but it is not recommended.
There are two ways to use DOSBox. The first way is the hard way, you will need to know some DOS commands. If you do know some commands, then you are good to go. If not, then don’t worry, the DOSBox Wiki has some great tutorials for learning DOS commands. Now for the easy way! If you go to the DOSBox website you also find a lot of these front ends.
These frontends will allow you to use DOSBox and have less use of the command line. In some cases, you can just put your DOS game CD into your computer, and install the games onto your computer using the installer on the disk. Once you have installed the game, you can then simply double click on it and it will run. Yes gamers it can be that simple.
A great place to obtain games that run on DOSBox include Good Old Games(AKA GOG). You do have to pay for some of these games, but they do have a few freebies to get you started.
DOSBox is a free application and you can download it from DOSBox.com.
Picks of the week:
Chris picked MAME, which stands for multiple arcade machine emulator. It’s a great way to relive some of those arcade game classics such as Robocop, After Burner, Rolling Thunder and many more. You can find some MAME games(AKA ROMS) from such sites as rom-world.com but be sure to check that the games you are downloading are public domain.
Disclaimer: The MHF Tech Network does not condone, promote, endorse, glorify, advocate or tolerate piracy.
If you want to download MAME, then check out MAMEDev.org . That’s where you can check out the Windows version of the software. If you want to check it out on the Mac, then take a look at MAME OSX which is a MAME frontend.

so why is it a good idea to adopt clouding computing for your large/medium business’s and organizations?in a an age of cash strapped IT departments, maintenance activities which streach IT departments to the limit, there is little time for development and new implitations. When business’s do decided to move part or all of their existing infractruter to the cloud. It will let them pursue new opportunities and development cut latency of data exchange and a more cost effective environment.Of course their are concerns such as cost , security and reliability but all of these issues have addressed in recent years and shouldn’t hold you back.
For example FireHost one of the stars of Cloud expo Europe offer a full range of security measures such as hardware network firewall, web application protection, network isolation and DDos protection. and for 145 pounds a month that include no setup fees or contract could look very attractive to IT network managers in this time of recession .
Equally strong on reliability Companies such as Equnix , go grid and Adapt specialise in bringing the customers reliable ,affordable and low latency Iaas . Chris was most impressed by GoGrid’s alliance with equnix which could soon dominate parts of the cloud market for IaaS. Adapt also have some very robust technology solutions.
That brings us to the end of our coverage of Cloud Expo Europe 2012 from London’s Olympia
Our next MHF Special will be covering the Unified Communications Expo 2012 on the 6th and 7th of March 2012 at London’s Olympia.
